Sherman is
located in the center of Grayson County.
It became the County Seat in 1846. The
town was named for Gen. Sidney Sherman, a hero
of the Texas Revolution and one of the state's
earliest railroad promoters. A log courthouse
was among the first buildings constructed and
the Sherman Real Estate Market began.
Settlers soon began moving into the new
community, which grew rapidly as a merchandising
center. By 1852 400 people lived in Sherman,
which consisted of a row of clapboard business
buildings along the east side of the public
square, and, among other things, two saloons, a
district clerk's office, a doctor's office, and
a church. By the end of the decade the town had
incorporated and was a stop on the Butterfield
Overland Mail route through Texas.

Fast
forward to today and the Sherman Real Estate
market has grown. Sherman is a community of
36,000 residents, and home to several Fortune
100 industries as well as to Austin College, a
vibrant arts community, and abundant
recreational opportunities. Excellent schools,
beautiful scenery, and a variety of shopping,
restaurants and hotels add to the community.
Sherman is 60 miles north of Dallas - close
enough to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to
access the urban amenities - yet it still
retains an unhurried and friendly atmosphere of
smaller communities. Sherman also has a richly
diverse history, and is only 10 miles south of
Lake Texoma, one of the largest reservoirs in
the state of Texas and well-known for its
champion bass fishing, sailing, camping and
hiking.
